‘Vista House’ captures a well-known view of the Columbia River Gorge from the historic Vista House in Oregon. This site was envisioned as “an observatory from which the view both up and down the Columbia could be viewed in silent communion with the infinite”. A region that has been developed in fits and starts with the buildout of railways and dams (symbolized by the architectural features at the top of the painting), it stands out as a stunning display of the grandeur of the Pacific Northwest’s vast landscapes. The original was painted with acrylic & gouache on canvas (pictured in last three listing images).
