Badlands depicts Dinosaur Provintial Park near Alberta, Canada. This region is characterized by its striking badland topography - “badlands” being dry terrains where softer sedimentary rocks and clay-rich soils have been extensively eroded by wind and water.Dinosaur Provintial Park is famous for hosting one of the richest dinosaur fossil troves in the world. I am fascinated by places like this, where great stores of biological material have decomposed over eons to form fossil fuel reserves which we now use to fuel modern life and build structures like the architectural feature in the painting’s foreground. Luckily this one is protected… for now.The original was painted with acrylic, pencil & gouache on canvas (pictured in last listing image).
